Five Fingers

Spring arrived today in Ann Arbor. And what does warm weather mean? Time to kick off your shoes and enjoy the grass between your toes. Growing up I enjoyed going shoeless all summer long. But cities are not good for going barefoot and to be honest my feet can't talk some of those rocks anymore. But I am in luck becuase a friend of our recommended these five fingers shoes to us. It is the new way to go "barefoot." So Arthur and I went to the store today and got us each a pair. Yes we know they aren't the most fashionable shoes out there but we were never fashionable to start with. A women in the store today told me that I looked like a frog!

Despite this we gave them a test run today and man are they great. It is like going barefoot but with no pain from rocks under your feet. The best thing is that you can do anything in them, walk, run, swim, kayak, you name it. And a side benefit is that they are the best conversation starter, you don't need a cute puppy or baby anymore you just need these five finger shoes. We wore them into the grocery this afternoon and we had three people around use asking all about the shoes. We will keep everyone updated on the shoes becuase they take a while to break in and for your muscles to get strong enough to use them for running.
Check out our new kicks!

Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day everyone. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than by appreciating what is so amazing about our Earth. If you can get out and enjoy spring, smell the flowers, go bird watching, then that is the best. But if you can't the second best option is to check out the movie Planet Earth. As some of you might know this is our favorite movie and we could watch it all day long. Be careful though your jaw might get tired from gaping the whole time at what amazing things are beyond the concrete jungle that has become our daily world. For those of you that might have watched it a few times through and need something else you are in luck. There is a new movie arriving in theaters today called Earth by the same people. Enjoy!

Visitors in Ann Arbor

Last weekend, we were lucky enough to have my mom and grandfather come visit us in Ann Arbor on my grandfather's birthday. We went and toured around Grosse Point and cooked a birthday dinner at our apartment, complete with a delicious cake from Zingerman's.

We love visitors, so come on out to see us!

New neighbors?

Yesterday we had two visitors, Black-Capped Chickadees. They came twice to inspect our bird house. Who knows maybe they found it suitable and will move in and we will have new neighbors!

Welcome to the Family Sabine!

Last Thursday I became an aunt! Arthur and I are beyond excited and proud to help welcome Sabine Courtney Steudel into the family. The whole family is well and healthy if not a little tired. Bebeth and Mark will be posting photos of Sabine and keeping us all updated. Check out their blog at: http://www.steudel.org/blog/2009/04/and-now-introducing/

Backyard Science

We spend all day staring down at our computers and some times we forget to look up. If you are lucky you will spot some amazing animals. One day when we were in our local park we spotted a hawk and a duck flying by. Even in the big cities you will be amazed what you will see if you just look up. Just be careful not to run into anything!
